Van recovery, 24/7
Van Recovery Birmingham
Van broken down in Birmingham or the West Midlands? Call 07402 666 687. We recover vans up to 3.5 tonnes, loaded or empty, including long wheelbase and high-top models, around the clock, and you agree the price before the truck leaves.
When a van stops, the work stops with it. The day's jobs slip, the customer waits and the tools or stock in the back are sat at the kerb. Our job is to get the van, and whatever is in it, off the road and to where you need it, whether that is your yard, a garage you trust or your own driveway.
We are a local recovery operator based in Oldbury, with drivers covering Birmingham, the Black Country and Solihull. Builders, couriers, mobile fitters, delivery drivers and small fleets all call us, as do private owners with a camper conversion or a van they use at weekends.
Van breakdown recovery in Birmingham
A van that will not start outside a workplace needs a different collection plan from one stopped on Birmingham's Ring Road. Tell dispatch whether it is parked clear of traffic, cannot roll, or has a fault that appeared while driving. A flat battery or simple electrical fault may allow a roadside assessment; a fault needing workshop attention calls for recovery. Our breakdown recovery service explains that distinction.
In a city-centre car park or at an industrial premises, getting to the van matters as much as its model. Mention gates, restricted access and any height barrier. For a multi-storey or low-height car park, read out the posted clearance and describe the level where the van is parked. Do not assume that because your van fitted through the entrance, a recovery truck will fit too. These details help us discuss the loading arrangements before sending the driver.
Van recovery near me
Your postcode is the starting point for locating the nearest available truck, not a reason to guess at an arrival time. Give the collection postcode first, then the road or premises and any entrance details. If the van is on a motorway, use the direction and marker information described below instead. Our Oldbury-based service covers Birmingham, the Black Country and Solihull; dispatch confirms the driver and ETA on the call. Also explain whether the van is empty or carrying tools, stock or parcels, and where you want it taken, so the quote relates to the actual job.
Vans we recover
- Small and medium panel vans
- Long wheelbase (LWB) vans
- High-top vans
- Light commercial vehicles up to 3.5 tonnes
- Non-running vans that will not start, steer or roll
- Accident-damaged vans
Our limit is 3.5 tonnes gross, which covers the vast majority of vans on a standard car licence. If you are not sure of the weight, read the plate inside the driver's door or give the dispatcher the registration and model.
Loaded vans, tools and stock
You do not need to empty the van before we arrive. We recover vans with the load on board, as long as the total stays within 3.5 tonnes. If the load is valuable or sensitive, tell us on the call. On request we can transfer tools and stock into a replacement vehicle, or take the load to a secure location while the van goes for repair.
It helps to mention anything unusual: racking, a roof ladder, a tow bar with a trailer attached, or a load that has shifted in the back. That way the driver arrives ready rather than finding out at the roadside.
Vans broken down on the M6, M5, M42 or A38(M)
Birmingham is ringed by busy motorways and a breakdown on the M6, M5, M42 or the A38(M) Aston Expressway is stressful, especially in a high-sided van. Your safety comes first. If you can, pull onto the hard shoulder or an emergency area, switch on hazard lights, leave by the verge-side door and wait behind the barrier. If you are stuck in a live lane, dial 999 first.
We attend motorway breakdowns once it is safe and the relevant authority has cleared the lane. When you ring, give the motorway, direction of travel and the nearest junction or marker post number, the small blue sign on the verge. Our motorway and smart motorway guide has more on staying safe while you wait.
What happens after you call
- 1
Ring or WhatsApp
A person answers, day or night. Tell them where the van is: postcode, road name, junction or the nearest landmark.
- 2
Describe the van and the load
Make, model, registration, rough size, and what is in the back. A full van loads differently to an empty one, so this matters.
- 3
Agree the price
You are told the figure on the call, before the truck sets off. Pay as you go, no membership needed.
- 4
Driver assigned
The nearest available driver is sent and you are given an ETA for your location.
- 5
Loaded and moved
The van goes on the flatbed and is taken to your yard, your garage, your home or another address you give us.
Where we cover
Van recovery is available across Birmingham, Oldbury, Dudley, Walsall, Wolverhampton, West Bromwich, Smethwick, Solihull and Sandwell. See areas we cover.
Commercial van recovery for trades and fleets
Commercial van recovery involves decisions about the work inside the vehicle as well as the vehicle itself. A tradesperson may need particular tools before loading, while a delivery driver may need to speak to the depot about the rest of the round. Tell us those priorities when booking, rather than waiting until the truck arrives. Our advice for a van broken down with tools or stock covers access to the load; the courier van breakdown page focuses on undelivered parcels and depot arrangements.
If you run several vans, a monthly invoiced account saves paperwork on every call-out. See courier and delivery van recovery and fleet vehicle recovery.
Van recovery FAQs
Do you do emergency van recovery in Birmingham?
Yes. Van recovery runs 24 hours a day, seven days a week across Birmingham and the West Midlands. Ring 07402 666 687 and a dispatcher answers.
How do I find van recovery near me?
Call a local operator with your postcode. We work from Oldbury with drivers across Birmingham, the Black Country and Solihull, and we will tell you straight on the call where the nearest truck is.
Can you recover a van that is fully loaded?
Yes, within the 3.5 tonne limit. We recover loaded vans and, on request, can move tools and stock to a replacement vehicle or a secure location.
What size of van can you take?
Vans and light commercials up to 3.5 tonnes, including long wheelbase and high-top models. Tell us the make and model when you call so the right truck is sent.
My van has broken down on the motorway. What should I do?
If you are in a live lane or cannot get off the carriageway, get everyone out on the verge side, stand behind the barrier and dial 999 first. Once it is safe and the lane is cleared, we can attend and recover the van.
Do you do van towing or only flatbed recovery?
We recover vans on flatbeds and carry the kit for the job. Loading the whole van keeps the drivetrain and gearbox safe, which matters on vans with automatic gearboxes or damage.
Can my business set up an account?
Yes. We run monthly invoiced accounts for trades, fleets and small businesses. Ask the dispatcher or use the contact page.
Does van breakdown recovery mean the van must go to a garage?
Not automatically. If a roadside fix is practical, we can assess it first. When recovery is needed, tell dispatch whether the destination is your repairer, business premises or home so the collection can be planned around that choice.
Is a privately owned camper conversion eligible for van recovery?
We also handle privately owned vans with camper conversions within our 3.5 tonne gross limit. Describe the base van and conversion, including its height and any equipment that affects access or loading, when arranging the call-out.
What should a commercial van driver tell dispatch about an unfinished round?
Explain what remains on board, whether any deliveries are time-sensitive and whether your depot is arranging another vehicle. That lets us discuss recovery with the load still in place or a transfer where it is safe and practical.
What if my broken-down van is behind a car park height barrier?
Give the displayed clearance and explain where the van is inside the car park. A high-top van and a recovery truck need different amounts of space, so access must be discussed before deciding how to move it out.
